Project Name: Interview With A Stranger On What's It Like To Be A...........
Skills: Sound Recording, Editing and Manipulation using Adobe Audition, Transcribing
Background: As part of my 'Introduction To Digital Sound' module at University I was given the task of finding a total stranger from the public to interview for around 10-20 minutes long, recording the dialogue spoken between us on to the sound recording kit which I hired out from the University stores.
I eventually found and arranged to interview Roger, whose full name turned out to be Frederick Roger Carter, a retired mechanical engineer, aged 69, who had lived in St Georges, Telford, Shropshire, his entire life - the one thing we shared in common together.
I interviewed Roger who spoke at great length about his life. In particular Roger told me about his childhood spent growing up around the St Georges Recreation Park in the late 1940's, a few years after the Second World War had come to a close and he also told me about his job as a mechanical engineer for a local Coal Mining Pit.
After transcribing our 23 and a half minute long interview, I then set about the task of editing it down to below the required 5 minute long length, which I managed to do whilst threading together a story on the subject of 'What's It Like To Be A Boy Growing Up In St Georges In The Late 1940's'.
I was also required to record unique sound effects and then edit them in to the dialogue where I felt they could add some creative sparkle. You can listen to my final recording of Roger's Interview (below) or you can read the transcribed text version of the interview by clicking the links on the right.
